December Galveston Fishing Report

December 28, 2014

Here in Galveston - we are fortunate to be able to experience some very good fishing 12 months out of the year.  Of course during the summer months the weather is much more stable, but despite roller coaster of weather we can experience in the winter months, fishing can be extremely fantastic during the weather windows of December, January and February.

December weather here in Galveston has been just that.  Most days this year we have been able to fish in very mild temps... short sleeves and sometimes even shorts.  Water temps have been has high as the low 70s to down in the mid 50s.  The key to catching the fish this time of year is to let the temps dictate your locations.  Another sure way to find the fish... is find the bait fish.

We have been catching very good numbers of slot redfish and speckled trout along deeper (4 to 6 foot) channels adjacent to oyster reefs.  Tide movement is critical to triggering the feed, but when all the right factors line up... fishing has been excellent.  Redfish, sheepshead, nice size speckled trout and flounder have been falling prey to live shrimp as well as live finger mullet.

The fishing outlook for January and February is very good for Galveston Bay.  This time of year weather does play a big role in where we fish, and how we fish - but one thing is for sure.... Winter Fishing in Galveston is the time to catch your trophy speckled trout, redfish or flounder.

Mother nature has definitely done a good job protecting the flounder this month.  Though we have had some very amazing trips and stuck some very large Galveston Flounder - we have had to reschedule many trips due to winds and rain.  When the weather stabilizes just for a day or two - we are having very successful trips.

Give us a call or email if you would like to book a trip here in Galveston Bay and get in on the action.
