Galveston Fishing Report – Amazing August, Spectacular September Look Ahead

Speckled Trout in Galveston

Our Galveston Fishing Charters has had a record book summer for Fishing in Galveston, Texas.  Our Galveston Fishing Guides proved day in and day out with awesome Fishing Reports why Galveston is the premier Fishing Destination along the Texas Coast.  The month of August has been simply amazing for every kind of fishing Galveston has to offer.

Speckled Trout in Galveston

Galveston has had record catches of Speckled trout, Redfish, Sharks, Spanish Mackeral, Flounder, Tarpon, KingFish, Sheepshead, Flounder Gigging, and more for August.  When the combination of very truly beautiful weather conditions, near perfect salinity levels and mild temperatures (for August) combine, we experience some incredible saltwater fishing.

Galveston Redfish Guides

The most successful type of fishing this month has been along the Galveston Beachfront and Jetty areas. Speckled Trout, Spanish Mackerel, Sharks, Redfish, Sheepshead, Pompano, and more have been finding their way to our baits.  Best baits continue to be live shrimp and live piggy perch.  The last part of August has found some very mild temperatures that are typical for Texas during this month.  With daylight hours already becoming shorter, we have already began to see subtle signs of changing of the season that is ahead.  When day light hours decrease and we are met with longer nights, water temperatures slowly begin to fall.  The simple decrease of one to two degrees will trigger fish into feeding in preparation for what is to come.

Galveston Fishing Outlook for September

September has always been an exciting month for Texas and the Gulf Coast.  Not only do Texans look forward to the many exciting hunting oppotunities our Great Lone Star State has to offer with Dove Season, Early Teal Season, preparing deer leases for the upcoming hunting season – We also look forward to the annual Redfish Runs and the beginning of what many Texans refer to as Flounder Gigging Season.

Galveston Bull Red

Hands down, September is the number one month for catching redfish here in Galveston.  Giant Bull Reds make their way from the Gulf of Mexico and into the passes of the Bays to spawn.  High tides are a very key ingredient with the success of redfish spawn.  High tides and currents deliver the fertilized eggs into the bayous and estuaries that freshly hatched red drum use as their nursery for the introduction of their potential long life.  During the month of September thru October, we will catch large numbers ofGiant Bull Red Fish that are doing their part to ensure the Galveston Redfish population thrives in Galveston.  These amazing fish may be 30 to 50 years old!  We prefer to catch and release the large Bull Reds.  The better eating fish are their smaller counter parts that are two to three years of age and in the 20 to 28 inch length limit.  We fish different styles to target the Bull Reds versus the ‘Slot Reds’.  It is very typical to catch both on our half day fishing charter.

Galveston Flounder Gigging

Not only will the Redfish be doing their annual spawning ritual, but the flounder will be not so far behind them with their traditional ‘Flounder Run‘ which is the spawn that occurs every Fall here in Galveston.  September marks the month we really begin to sharpen our Flounder Gigs and launch our Flounder Gigging Boats, and make our way to the Galveston flats and esutaries and hunt the elusive Galveston Flounder.  When tides stay median, and winds are lite – September is an amazing month to gig a Flounder of a Lifetime here in Galveston, Texas.  Our Galveston Flounder Gigging Charters begin before dusk.  After we watch a beautiful sunset here on Galveston Bay – the hunt begins.  Combine a bit of Bay Fishing for redfish and speckled trout before dark with some night time flounder gigging – and you have a combination of an amazing time on Galveston Bay.  Our Galveston Fish-Gig Combos are exactly what you have been looking for.
