Galveston Fishing Report – Cooler Weather means Hot Gigging and Fishing

Galveston Flounder

Galveston Fishing Report

It seems the cooler weather is finally here, and Fishing in Galveston is on Fire!  Water temps have finally fallen in the 60’s and this is a magic number to get the fish very active.  This is our favorite time of year to fish and gig Galveston Bay.  Our Galveston Fishing Guides are having incredible success with Big Flounder, nice slot Redfish, and some very Big Speckled Trout.

December Fishing in Galveston

Our Fishing Guides witnessed very good numbers of flounder become active halfway thru the month of November, and with the last push of cool air we just experienced has made some very large flounder begin to make a move to their spawing grounds.  This is the best time of year to catch or gig a trophy flounder of a lifetime on Galveston Bay.  Our Galveston Fishing Guides are having their best luck catching flounder on Gulp plastic baits.  Copper penny, pink, red/green have all been very productive.  Live finger mullet had been scarce during November because of the high tides we experienced, but December has proven different.  Tidal patterns are finally on a ‘Fall’ schedule which makes a significant difference for bait houses having live finger mullet.

Texas Flounder Gigging

Flounder Gigging in Galveston

December and January are the absolute best time of year to gig flounder in Galveston.  Tides will have fallen, water clarity will be great and flounder are on the move.  December 1 the gigging season opened back up, and every night has been incredible.  We are seeing many fish each night, and limits are coming easy.  We have a couple of open dates for December and are booking now for January as well.  If you have never gigged flounder, this is a must do while visiting Galveston Island.  Check out some of our videos here to see what a flounder gigging trip is all about.  Another video here.

Galveston Redfish

December Fishing

Fishing Galveston Bay for Redfish, Speckled Trout and Flounder has been amazing and will continue to get better as more fish begin to feed up for winter.  Our Guideswill be targeting redfish in the back lakes and marsh using live shrimp and mullet.  Speckled trout and flounder will also be on our hit list and large fish is common.  If you are looking for trophy fish, now is the time to catch a fish of a lifetime.  We also offer our famous Galveston Fish/Gig Combo where we will begin a gigging trip with a splash of fishing for redfish and speckled trout.  This is a great trip to give you a taste of what Galveston Bay December fishing and gigging is all about.

With Christmas fast approaching and kids being out for break, give Captain Greg a call to get out on the water, and experience a great time with our Kid Friendly Galveston Fishing Guides.  If you are looking for a great gift idea, give us a call for a Fishing Charter Gift Certificate!  It makes a great gift for that special someone.  409-739-8526
