Galveston Fishing Reports – Fun February

Galveston Fishing Charters

Galveston Fishing Report

Anglers are experiencing some amazing fishing in Galveston, and with the spectacular weather we are experiencing, our Galveston Fishing Charters are in for some excellent fishing ahead.  Weather patterns for Texas during the month of February can be either freezing cold or warm temperatures with spring like conditions.  February 2016 has been simply amazing with some really nice weather days, warming trends, good moving tides and fish that are hungry.  The past week has seen some great catches come to the docks and our Galveston Fishing Guides are enjoying every minute of it. The Galveston Jetty Trips, Bay and Marsh Fishing, as well as our Galveston Flounder Gigging Charters have all had great success this past week.

Fishing Charters Galveston Texas

This is a great time of year to be fishing along the Galveston Channel and Galveston Jetty.  For anglers wanting to land a fish over 20 lbs and in excess of 50 lbs – this is the most favorable time of year to land a fish of this caliber.  Unlike the speckled trout which spawn in only the Bays and their cousin the Red Drum which only spawn in the Gulf – The Black Drum will spawn in both of these areas and passes that connect them.  The Galveston Jetties provide the absolute perfect stage for the Black Drum Spawn.  The past week this great run has begun, and our Galveston Fishing Guides know how to hook em up!  Fresh blue crab rigged on a large circle hook tied to a 2 to 3 foot 80 lb leader with a large slip sinker 4 to 8 oz depending on currents are our favorite rigs for these Giants.  The Black Drum Run begins now and will last thru April.

Galveston Spring Break

This past week we have been catching nice speckled trout, redfish, sheepshead and puppy drum.  Tidal movements have been key to the success as well as water conditions and winds.  Live shrimp free lined or under a popping cork have been the most popular tactics this past week.  The speckled trout and reds have been found in 6 to 8 foot of water, and are bunched up when conditions are right.
