The past couple of weeks has seen some amazing weather and great fishing from the back lakes and bays of Galveston and Freeport to 140 miles south in the Gulf of Mexico.  As we wrap up the great month of May for fishing, we now get to the starting line of summer as June is fast approaching.  June 1 is only a few days away and Texas Red Snapper Season will begin.  2023 will mark the longest Red Snapper Season we have seen in over a decade with 85 days!  We will be able to run Galveston Red Snapper Fishing Charters from June 1 to August 24, 2023.  On our Galveston Deep Sea Fishing Charters we will be targeting red snapper, mahi, cobia, kingfish, wahoo, grouper, and more.

Lately, we have been running out deeper for swordfish, tuna, grouper and more.  These trips are 36 hours trips and can definitely be very rewarding with boxes full of fresh caught Gulf Fish.  We will be picking these trips back up after our Texas red snapper season is complete, so now is the time to book that 36 hour deep sea adventure.

Our back lakes and bays have been full up on speckled trout, redfish, black drum, bay snapper and flounder.  Our Galveston Bay Fishing Charters are giving icenaps to these fish using live shrimp under a popping cork.  We are drifting over shell/sand in 2 to 3.5 feet of water.  Tide movement has been critical, and the afternoon trips are paying big dividends.  One of our half day (5hr) trips this past week landed over 100 fish in the backlakes!  Fishing has been incredible and should continue through the summer.

The water clarity along our beachfront and jetties has been very clear and the speckled trout and redfish have been easy pickings!  We are catching limits or near limits of speckled trout almost every trip.  The best baits and techniques has been using live shrimp freelined or with a very small amount of weight.  Casting tight to the jetty rocks is key and tidal movement is also crucial.

This time of year also is a fantastic time for someone interested in catching a Giant Shark!  As water temperatures continue to rise more sharks will make their way onto our beachfront.  Our Galveston Shark Fishing Charters are a definite hit for kids, families, and anyone that is ready for a great battle on large tackle without going miles and miles into the Gulf.  We offer 5 and 8 hour Galveston Shark Fishing Charters throughout the summer and into September.

There are allot to do here in Galveston, Texas and booking a fishing Charter with our Kid Friendly Fishing Guides should be a top priority.  Give us a call at 409-739-8526 or email us at greg@fishinggalvestontx.com for any questions.  You can also book your trip online!  Let’s Go Fishing!
