We have had unusually colder winter here on the Texas Coast this February. This past week we had 3 days in a row that the temperature never reached above 30 degrees. That is very unusual here for us, and I dont think the fish like it much either. Yesterday, the temps did warm up to above 50 and the water temps went from 48 to 53 by the afternoon and the fish decided to eat. All of the specks we caught in Galveston Bay were very solid fish, over 20 inches. Our specks were caught on live shrimp and platic jigs. We cant wait for a little warmer weather pattern, and the fishing will do nothing but get better here in Galveston. Spring Break is around the corner and we are ready on Galveston Island!
We also had a very good night of flounder gigging last night. We had Tom and his 8 year old daughter Ellie out for a night of flounder gigging. Ellie had a great time, and they went home with a pile of flounder! Kids love a night out on Galveston Bay. The myriad of aquatic life lurking along the bay floor amazes kids and adults alike. You never know what you will see on a night of flounder gigging with us – from flounder, stone crabs, mullet, redfish, sheepshead, giant stingrays, drum, and too many blue crabs to count!
