This has been one of the easiest springs to get through from a Galveston Fishing Guide’s point of view.  For the most part the weather conditions have been favorable compared to a typical Texas Coastal Spring.  Water temperatures are rising.  Rain fall is average.  Keeping an open mind and adjusting to the direction – the winds have not been too un-manageable, and the upper Texas Coast Fishery is in good shape.

Most of our Galveston Bay Fishing Trips have been taking place in the West Galveston Bay and Freeport area.  The backlakes and bayous along with the satellite bays have been favorable when fishing over the oyster reefs.  Tides are playing a huge role, and it has been best on the incoming/high tide.  Some very solid speckled trout are being caught in 2-4 foot of water targeting oyster beds.  Also, mixed in are lots of 16-26 inch redfish… with heavy numbers being 16 to 19 inch.  Redfish have to be 20 inch minimum to keep, but those undersize fish sure make for great fun for kids and adults alike to battle to the boat. 

The past couple of days we have seen more numbers of flounder hitting our baits as the spring flounder run is in full swing.  These fish are making their way back into the Galveston bays and bayous and will call these areas home for the summer. 

Also, we have spent some time out on the Gulf of America lately, and with some healthy fish to show for it.  As we are waiting for the highly anticipated Galveston Red Snapper Season, there are plenty of excellent fish to target until then.
