The month of May has consistently been a great month for fishing here on the Galveston, Texas Gulf Coast.  I compare the month of May for kicking off our summertime fishing with the end of October and the first cool front to get our fall time fishing going.  Water conditions have improved, temperatures are on the rise… and fishing is HOT!

Our Galveston Fishing Charters are spending equal amounts of time fishing the beachfront/surf area as well as the back lakes and bays.  The past week has seen some excellent speckled trout action in the beachfront/surf.  Some very big specks have been caught-photo and released the last couple of days.  The trout are in spawning mode right now, and we have been catching solid fish using freelined live shrimp along the jetty rocks.  Even on the days when the water clarity has been “so-so”, the fishing has not disappointed.  Also, mixed in with our speckled trout catches has been some very nice upper slot red fish, pompano and BaySnapper.  As water temperatures continue to rise, fishing will continue to be great.

The backlakes and bays are also producing some fun fishing action for our Galveston Fishing Guides.  Speckled trout, redfish, flounder, drum and BaySnapper are hitting the deck.  We are fishing West Galveston Bay drifting over shell/mud flats using live shrimp under a popping cork and having great success.  These back lake trips are not only great for fishing action… the scenery and solitude is likely the best part!  If you prefer being away from the crowds – this is your trip.

The month of May is also a great month to wade fish for our more experienced anglers.  Fishing in knee to waist deep water using topwaters early and switching over to soft plastics mid-morning is the key.  Also tidal movement is critical.  To see a video of wade fishing check out this link.

Our Galveston Deepsea Fishing Charters are booking up for summer, but we still have a few dates available.  If you are looking for some BIG fish action check out our Deepsea Fishing Charters.  Red Snapper, mahi, cobia, kingfish, and more will be taking ice naps very soon.  Give us a call today to secure your trip and get ready to catch some BIG fish!

Also, our Galveston Kids Summer Fishing Camps are booking now.  Give us a call or email greg@fishinggalvestontx.com for more information.
