Water temperatures here in Galveston are rising and fishing has been extremely HOT! Just in time for Spring Break – Our Galveston Fishing Charters have been filling up coolers with amazing fish this past week. This time of year, our two most popular fishing charters are the Galveston Jetty and Beachfront Fishing Charter and the Galveston Bay and Marsh Fishing Charter. The past few days we are catching great numbers of BaySnapper, Redfish, and Drum. Also, mixed in are flounder and speckled trout. As the water temperatures continue to rise, we will be seeing more speckled trout showing up.
We have been freelining live shrimp along the jetties in 8 to 24 foot of water. Fishing tight to the rocks has been the key. The BaySnapper have showed up as their annual spawn is under way, and these tasty fish are the big target right now. As we are catching the BaySnapper – the other species of fish are always a great surprise! Red Fish, Drum, and solid speckled trout also are in these areas – and we are catching them as well.
The Galveston Bay and Marsh is a great trip right now especially for those that do not want to worry about the possibilities of sea sickness. This is a great shallow water experience, and the scenery is amazing. This past week as we are traveling these bayous, we have seen white tail deer, wild hogs and alligators on our way to our fishing spots! We fish these areas a little different using live shrimp under a popping cork. There has been plenty of fish catching action in the back lakes and marshes, and the fish that are biting are redfish, flounder, speckled trout, drum and baysnapper.
