Galveston Fishing Report and Look-Ahead
This has definitely been a December for the record books for fishing here in Galveston, Texas. Extremely high tides, warm water, and strong winds hadf definitely changed the fishing patterns our Galveston Fishing Guides are used to for December. The first week and half of December shaped up nice with cooler water temps which set the flounder into their normal routine. The rest of the month you would think we were in a September fishing pattern. The flounder run was delayed due to the high waters and temperatures. On a Galveston Fishing Charter last week, we saw flounder in the back bayous feeding on schools of minnows. This is typical for summer, but not December.
Our Galveston Bay Fishing Charters has been extremely good for large quantity of fish. Speckled trout and redfish have been the two most caught species this month. Live shrimp under a popping cork along oyster reefs in 1 to 3 foot of water has been the ‘Go To’ spots.
With the blast of cool air Galveston, Texas just received – our Galveston Fishing Guides will see patterns change for the better. While the water temperatures drop, water clarity will increase and our Galveston Flounder Gigging will light off! Along with the flounder gigging, we should see the size of redfish and speckled trout get bigger. This is definetely the time to catch a trophy Speckled Trout of a lifetime. The fish will congregate more along deeper access and targeting these fish will become easier for our Fishing Guides.
